Great Leadership Starts With Self-Leadership

Advanced

This TEDx Talk by Lars Sudmann argues that self-leadership is the foundation of great leadership. Sudmann proposes that many leaders fall into a trap he calls the "leadership formula of doom" which consists of feeling like there's not enough time (TLT), a focus on people, and an emphasis on power. He suggests that this approach can lead to chaotic and ineffective leadership. Sudmann argues that effective leaders first develop themselves through self-awareness, self-reflection, and self-regulation. He offers reframing, a technique where you take a step back from a situation and ask yourself how important it is on a grander scale, as a tool to aid in self-regulation. By prioritizing self-leadership, Sudmann suggests that leaders can then inspire and guide others.
