Three Secrets of Resilient People
In the TED Talk titled "The three secrets of resilient people" by Lucy Hone, resilience is the ability to cope with adversity. Hone, a researcher who studies resilience, experienced a personal tragedy when her 12-year-old daughter Abby died in a car accident. She talks about how she disagreed with the advice about grief that she received and decided to develop her own strategies for coping with her loss. Hone outlines three key strategies for resilience:
1. Accept that bad things happen: Resilient people don't expect life to be perfect and they know that bad things will happen. They don't see themselves as being singled out for misfortune.
2. Focus on the positive: Resilient people train themselves to focus on the good things in their lives, even when times are tough.
3. Ask yourself: "Is what I'm doing helping or harming me?" This question can be used to make choices about how to behave in difficult situations.
Hone acknowledges that these strategies won't take away the pain of loss but that they can help people to move forward with their lives.
